Meet Phil -the unbreakable spirit

  • Post category:Participants

Phil’s condition is a complex one that requires constant care and attention. His C1 level Spinal Cord Injury has left him with tetraplegia, which means he has no functional use of his arms or legs. This can be a very challenging and isolating experience for anyone, but Phil has shown remarkable resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

One of the most significant challenges for Phil is that he is unable to breathe without ventilation. This means that he requires round-the-clock support from medical professionals to ensure that he stays healthy and does not experience any complications related to his respiratory system.

Living with tetraplegia can be a lifelong journey and Phil’s journey is no exception. However, he has shown incredible courage and determination in the face of adversity, and he serves as an inspiration to many. With the support of his loved ones and his healthcare team, Phil has been able to live a fulfilling life, and he continues to inspire others with his unwavering spirit, sence of humour and determination to overcome any obstacle.

“I stayed in hospital for quite a while and recall participating in a lot of discussions around the extreme difficulty of finding an appropriate place for me to live. Trying to navigate these technicalities would have been challenging for anyone Even at the best of times. Throw in the Covid pandemic and this scenario goes beyond boiling the point of `difficult`. This was despite having had my NDIS Plan approved and ready to go…” – says Phil.

Phil moved in to one of Alpha Carers Australia homes some time ago, and he is happier than ever, because he can and still having “decent food! “ Phill indeed has many complex needs, but as he claims himself: “All of my needs – and yes they are plenty and very complex – Alpha Carers fill whatever gap and gets them completed.”  Phil enjoys his life in Alpha Carers Australia, and we are happy to have such a cheerful resident like him, and more than this – we are happy to change his life for the better at the best manner we possibly can.
